My name is Emili James, I am a born and raised OBX girl!
Seen In Colors is operated by myself, and often with assistance of my fiance Dylan! He works with me as a second shooter, as well as capturing drone, and video coverage!
I have been practicing photography for 17 years.
My dad gave me his old Nikon to play around with in middle school, and the rest is history. My youth was filled with endless photoshoots with my sister and friends exploring every abandoned house, field, hotel, and rental the beach had to offer.
During this time, I fell in love with film-shooting on hundreds of CVS disposable cameras and the cheapest rolls of film I could find with an old ae1, and today work as a film forward photographer.
Film is my passion.
I originally perused film photography in college, where I learned to develop my own film, and studied abroad in Italy continuing my art studies.
Since then have worked for countless of brands on campaign work, family photos, senior portraits, maternity portraits, engagement photos, and expanding into the world of wedding photography.
I reside in Nags Head NC, where I spend most of my time with the love of my life, my fiance Dylan, our closest friends, and our two dogs; Jinx, our corgi, and Oregon (named after our favorite state, and the place we got engaged) our black lab.
You can find us at our local beach access almost any day of the week running around with the pups, or at our favorite local bar Swellsa.
A little bit about me outside of my work:
-I'm a lover of all things horror genre
-I'm always listening to music. My favorite bands are Fontaines D.C and Flipturn
-I'm much more of a mountain person over the beach, even though I grew up in the OBX
-The PNW is my favorite place in the world
-I love going to the movie theatres and am part of a movie club that goes weekly
-I love to travel and have been to over 20 countries and 40 states
-I have exactly 30 tattoos (for now)
-Halloween and Christmas are my favorite holidays
